Feminist Therapy

This week in my Theories & Techniques class we discussed feminist theory.

Every week before this, I've felt relatively lost.  I've had to struggle to grasp the basic concepts of the chapters (I'm sure it will get easier as I progress in the program, but this is all new to me!).  I usually leave class feeling frustrated because I felt like half the class was focusing on the wrong things (for example, writing style of an imaginary case versus applying the theory to said case) and the other half have already worked in agency settings and were miles ahead of me.

This week, however, I felt like a queen!  That's a bit of an exaggeration, but really, I felt like, "Yes, I totally get this!"  I really felt like I contributed to the conversation, and I even had a list of books off the top of my head I would utilize for "bibliotherapy" for our imaginary client.

But wait!  It's not over yet.  The icing on the cake is that after class, the teacher came over and said thanks for the responses I had posted to some of my peers online.  He said I did a good job and that it saved him from having to respond to some off-color remarks.

It just felt SO GOOD to finally understand something really well and for that to not go unnoticed.

I could dance!

But for everyone's sake I won't.  I'll just keep this big ole smile on my face!

Loving the Weather!

What an absolutely wonderful, beautiful day!

I got to drive to my piano lesson with the windows down and the music up.  I was also pleased, because my piano instructor gave me more than 4 pages of piano music to work on this week.  That will be much more exciting!  All of the notes are now on a fancy staff.  So now I have to practice reading them based on location and not the little letters printed inside the notes.  Exciting stuff!

After finishing up an assignment and before class, I also got to sit outside in the warm sunshine (and wind) and read.  It felt wonderful, but I was sitting right in the sun and knew I wasn't wearing any sunscreen, so after a bit I went back inside.  My cheeks still feel a little warm (I came back in over two hours ago), and I'm wondering if they are a bit pink from our date with the beautiful sun.

Now I'm back inside and trying to write a critique of myself from a video of a pretend-therapy session.  I'm not sure why I'm struggling so much with this assignment.  I've just whipped up my other written assignments thinking, "Well, it's my first semester, I'll see what their expectations are and go from there," and then just written however I am most comfortable.  This one I've been having trouble doing that with.  It's a two-page max assignment, so geez, I just need to clunk it out.  So far I have a paragraph.  I watched the video and took written notes over two weeks ago!  My goal is just make myself finish this in the next half hour.  Just write!  The faster I get this business over with, the more I can enjoy the beautiful weather this week instead of being trapped inside in front of the computer!

Happy Things

Today was a great day!

A co-worker gave me a "just because"gift out of the blue.  It made me super happy.  She got me a little frame with the Serenity Prayer inside it.  It is just lovely, and I could always use a reminder of those words.  We had spoken a long time ago about a necklace she has with the Serenity Prayer on it, and I had commented on how wonderful it would be to have a reminder like that.  Now I have my own reminder on my desk at work :)

Also, I got to spend some time with a friend I haven't seen in quite some time this evening.  It was really nice catching up and hearing that I'm not the only person on a journey.  (Yes, I know that on an intellectual level, but it is nice to get confirmation on an emotional level).

I just feel really good right now!  Happy day :)

The World Is Full of Mystery

Mystery #1
So this blogger thing tells me neat stuff, like how many folks view my blog each day and what kind of browser and operating systems folks use to see it.  (Most of you from an Android device, you fancy devils!  I still don't have a smart phone or other such thing.)

The neatest part, though, is where in the wold folks are peeking in from.  And guess what?  Russia showed up!  So I have two questions:
  1. Is someone I know in Russia?  If so, do tell me all about your adventures!
  2. If not, howdy new friend!
Okay, I guess that was maybe only 1 question.  I could have worked harder to make two, but I choose not to.

When I was in about the 9th grade I really, really wanted to learn to speak Russian.  I went to the library and checked out a little book and tape.  I was super excited, but man, I tell you I could not make it past the alphabet.  I bet it would have been better if I'd been able to take a class in school.

Mystery #2
I cannot count.  The piano actually has 73 keys, which is quite a bit fewer than 80, which was already quite a bit fewer than 88.  Ho hum!  Honestly, though, if it was any bigger I'm not sure it would fit in the apartment without being in the way all the time.  So I suppose a small piano is better than no piano.  I'm still a tad bummed, though.  (There had better not be even fewer keys the next time I count!)

I don't know whether the "missing" keys are from the top or bottom or both.  Googling has been no help in this matter!  Also, people on the internets say nasty things about spinet pianos.  I think they are snooty.  Not everyone can have the biggest and best, and really, I'd rather have a little ole spinet than an electric piano.  Which probably makes me snooty, too.

Mystery #3
On a different Google Quest, I typed "why does" into Google, and the following suggestions were offered to me:
  • "why does my urine smell"
  • "why does missouri have a bootheel"
  • "why does my eye twitch"
  • "why doesn't god heal amputees"
Then I promptly forgot what I was originally asking.  Short of living in Missouri, which I think Google does know, why does Google think I want to know these other things?  I'm sure I've googled some weird stuff before, but honestly, pee, twitches, state lines, and miraculous limb growth are not among my various and sundry ponderings.
